The Living Tombstone Tacoma Concert reviews
schöne Musik
The Living Tombstone and the Johanne Strauss Orchestra are a world treasure. It is a real treat to listen to so many wonderful musicians and instruments synthesized into genuine musical magic in an age of electronic "music", dominated by technology and less artistic skill.
While I realize that The Living Tombstone was trying to be polite, I did not appreciate his tribute to Michael Jackson. In the truest sense, Michael Jackson's music never approached the quality and mastery of the symphonic masterpieces of Johanne Strauss' era. So The Living Tombstone, please drop the Michael Jackson tribute from your program. If you feel obligated to recognize American influence and contributions to music, then please select someone more appropriate like John Philip Sousa, Glen Miller, or Tommy Dorsey, who's works required true mastery of the art of music.
The venue - Mariner's Arena - is absolutely awful! The Johanne Strauss entourage deserves a more appropriate venue like the Kennedy Center in Washington, or something a bit more classy. Perhaps you could arrange to perform in Annapolis or on the Ellipse in Washington? Alte und schmutzig! The acoustics in the arena are sub-optimal and the seating and appearance are better suited to boxing than to classical music. Even an outdoor venue would be a better idea for the future.
Nochmals vielen Dank The Living Tombstone für das wunderbare Geschenk der Musik! All of these complaints aside, I would be willing to sit on a milk crate in an old airplane hangar just to experience the wonder and tranquility of The Living Tombstone's gift to the world of traditional waltzes. Hearing them at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna of course!
